Digital Offline Learning Hub

Default-deny firewall + click-through captive portal

Built as an end-to-end engineering project for Carranglan National High School, this hub delivers reliable, offline digital learning to roughly 150 students in a mountainous, low-connectivity area.

What I engineered

  • A standalone campus Wi-Fi network with access points in access-point mode and a pfSense gateway as the core router/firewall.
  • A default-deny firewall allow-list plus a click-through captive portal to control access and harden the network against sniffing, MAC-spoofing, and rogue-access-point risks.
  • The local service infrastructure: an offline knowledge library, a curated learning-modules repository, and direct-play educational video streaming (H.264/AAC, no transcoding) — all hosted on-premises with no cloud dependency.

Process discipline

Followed the PPDIOO product lifecycle (Plan, Prepare, Design, Implement, Operate, Optimize) and validated selected ISO/IEC 25010 software-quality characteristics against the institution’s acceptability threshold.

Outcomes

  • Deployed a working, in-service system — not a prototype.
  • Controlled and hardened access: default-deny allow-list, captive portal, and defenses against sniffing, MAC-spoofing, and rogue access points.
  • Ran local content services: offline knowledge library, curated module repository, and direct-play educational video streaming.
